Nanika-Kidprice Provincial Park

The Nanika-Kidprice Canoe Route is now a Provincial Park and is located about one hour south of Houston BC. This chain of lakes provides backcountry paddlers with an opportunity to paddle and portage into the mountains of BC.

The first portage from Lamprey Lake to Anzac lake is 1500 meters long and has some steep sections. The second portage from Anzac Lake to Steppe Lake is only 500 meters long and is quite flat.

Steppe Lake as well as Kidprice Lake can have heavy wind and waves so paddlers must be aware of this hazard.

The third portage from Steppe Lake to Kidprice Lake is about 2300 meters and goes over rolling terrain. At the end of the third portage the view of the mountains towering over Kidprice lake makes all the work seem like a small price for such an breathtaking view.

Fishing on these lakes can be very good for small to medium size Rainbow Trout. Campsites are common but they are rustic backcountry campsites.

Paddlers should be prepared for sudden weather changes including heavy wind or rain and unseasonably cool temperatures.

Canoeists who make it to Kidprice Lake when it is calm will be able to paddle to Nanika Falls. This waterfall is very spectacular and is located about 5 minutes down the river draining Kidprice Lake. Do not Paddle near the falls as you do not want to be swept over the falls.
